Story
Growing up I was never told I was pretty, beautiful, let alone gorgeous. I was told "Its what's on the inside that counts. ", Yea right! who wants to hear that. It played on my self-esteem and confidence. For years I thought I was ugly, unwanted and unworthy. Then about 3 years ago I cut off all my hair!! Never before had I ever felt so liberated, empowered, courageous and worthy of everything the world has to offer. Then one day I was playing around with the phrase MELANIN JUST A DROP and noticed the words "ME" and "IN" and "US". So, I highlighted those 3 words and searched for words that describes "US" not just what you see, but who we are on the inside. The HUSTLE that's in us, fighting for JUSTICE that's in us, being PRECIOUS that's in us, and being GORGEOUS that's in us. Not until then did those words, "It's what's on the inside that counts" started to make sense. It was in me this whole time! And you know what, it's in you too.​
I'm proud to introduce ITSMEINUS (pronounced ITS ME IN US) we want you to tell the world exactly who you are and what you represent. At ITSMEINUS we embrace self-expression through words that define not only who we are, but what it is to be black. It's something that's naturally IN US. It's hard to describe, it truly and really is something that is IN US!
There is power in words, and I want to celebrate the very essence of being black by the HUSTLE...that's "IN US" the MUSIC... that's "IN US". The GENIUS... that's "IN US". Being Courageous, Victorious, Prosperous, Hilarious or Exclusive that's all... "IN US". We have been told lies and feed untruths for so long that it's time for us to wear it; head up, chest out, shoulders back, crown adjusted!!
